About White Rabbit Designs
Hi, I'm Carol McKay, White Rabbit Designs’ owner/artisan. I have been making jewelry for 20 years after learning how to restring a necklace in need of repair. Looking around the shop, I was smitten by the “gem bug.” My work first involved beading. Wanting to incorporate handmade clasps and findings into my beaded jewelry, I began taking metalsmithing classes—and soon I knew the possibilities were endless. As my own "apprentice," I find there is infinite opportunity to grow in learning this medium. I enjoy most working with precious metals and precious and semiprecious gems and beads. My goal is to make quality artisan-designed, hand-crafted jewelry with the goal of keeping most pieces in an affordable price range.
In 2012, I began working with a group of fellow metal artisans, some with many years of experience with their art and some, like me, who were relative beginners. In 2013, we began general meetings as Athens Metal Arts Guild under the "umbrella" of the Lyndon House Arts Center, a publicly funded center here in Athens. It has been a rewarding experience, allowing me to share ideas with fellow members and keeping me abreast of what's going on in metal arts. I current the Media Coordinator of the guild and love the camaraderie that I have found with this talented group. Athens has an amazing art community—and its community of metal artists is no exception to this.
I currently make jewelry on commission and pieces for my own pleasure, occasionally exhibiting in shows sponsored by the Athens Metal Arts Guild. I love seeing my work exhibited. However, it is even more thrilling to see a woman enjoying wearing something that I have created.
